Hey, you guys, I found something interesting. I was reading a newspaper column this morning, and the columnist was talking about how biased and one-sided the "news" (quotations intentional) from Iraq has been. Basically, we're not only not getting the entire picture, we're not even getting a remotely accurate picture. He mentioned two bloggers that are much better at presenting a broader view (funny how the professional journalists have abdicated their responsibility to present what's really happening in favor of wholesale America-bashing). I'm probably the last in this bunch to find AndrewSullivan.com, but it's a very interesting place.
Also http://chiefwiggles.blog-city.com/. This guy is in Iraq. Very interesting reading. And it looks like they're taking donations of stuff for the kids in Iraq. Might be worth putting a box together.
Cheers, y'all.
The band was in the paper last week! I can't believe this article is still up on the local paper's web site, here. That's me in the front row, just right of center. White t-shirt. You can't tell from the picture but I probably didn't know where we were in the music. The concert was Sunday and went remarkably well, for as few members as we have.
Cheers, y'all.
White T shirt, right of center.
I see a yellow T shirt, and a long-sleeved shirt w/bib overalls, but the white T shirt "person" appears to be wearing white tennis shoes. But, that's left of center wrt the photographer.
Just curious....
Just a note regarding life in the left lane...I'm going to be (more) scarce for a bit, as dad is needing a lot more one-on-one care these days. Emphasyma and CHF is a tough combo to live with, but he's giving it his best shot.
I haven't fallen off the face of the planet, but don't be wondering if I fell off the motorcycle or sumthin...
Thanks in advance for the prayers and positive thoughts.
Ray
Wizz, sorry to hear about your dad, you'll both be in my prayers.
What I meant about being right of center was right of center of the people sitting in the front row, sorry about the confusion. I'm the geek in the white t-shirt and raggedy running shoes.
I just got back from Canada, btw. Nearly froze. It's not really cold yet, by Canadian standards, but it's darn cold by SC standards. And I kept catching myself putting "Eh?" at the end of my sentences. Yikes.
Cheers, y'all.
Your family is in my prayers.
*hugs Wizz*
Sorry to hear that bud.
Fan, cool picture, thanks!
Wizz, Hope your dad gets better. I know where your coming from.
So far, folks, I'm having a very bad week.
Our oldest dog (she's fifteen), is dying. She's been diabetic for four years, she's got arthritis, high blood pressure, heart problems, lung problems, is pretty much blind (I think she sees movement and can distinguish light and dark, but that's about it), and nearly deaf as a post. She's been getting around fine, though, mostly she follows the other dogs around, we don't move things much out there, and she seems happy to see us when we come out into the back yard.
Sunday afternoon she had two (that I know of) seizures. I didn't see the first one; I found her lying in one of their water containers when I went out to clean up the yard (a daily chore). I brought her in the house, dried her off, and tried to figure out what was happening. I thought she was crashing. I tried to get some Nutrical (a supplement -- we keep it on hand, it helps in diabetic crashes and we have two diabetic animals) in her mouth, but couldn't get her teeth apart. So I dabbed it inside her lip. She was obviously disoriented and upset. Anyway, about an hour and a half later she had another one, which I did see. It was horrific. I called our vet's number, he has a 24-hour answering service, and ended up taking her to the vet on call (our previous vet -- we just changed vets for reasons that have nothing to do with this story, but the good thing was that he'd cared for her most of her life and knew her history). Her blood glucose was 22 (extremely low, for anyone who is unfamiliar), and he figured it was because of the low blood sugar that she was seizing. He gave her fluids, dextrose, and Valium when she began freaking out again on the way back up to normal.
Next day I took her to our current vet, who said he thought it might be a brain lesion, but only an MRI would tell for sure. That afternoon, she had another seizure and I took her back to him. He suggested I take her to the emergency vet clinic in Columbia (about an hour away) so they could monitor her overnight. Which I did.
Next morning -- this morning, actually, I'm operating on four hours' sleep so I'm a bit muddled -- I picked her up. She'd had two more seizures last night, the first one right after I left. I brought her home, then had to take her back to Columbia to see the Internal Medicine people (who work in the same building as the emergency clinic people, only during the day -- sure would have been easier just to wait for them to come in, I have no idea why the emergency vet didn't just refer her, but there it is). They admitted her. They're going to give her an MRI tomorrow evening (that's when the mobile MRI machine comes by). And if it's brain lesions, as the consensus seems to be, we're going to have to let her go.
They can do brain surgery, but -- she's fifteen, sick, and exhausted. I don't want to lose her, but even if we had the money for the surgery and radiation therapy, it seems too much like torture. It's not about what I want anymore, it's about what's best for her.
And I'm not taking it very well. Life is going to be a lot less complicated when she's gone, because she was on so many meds and needed so much attention, but oh God I'm going to miss her.
